Why we left our big team to start our own business!
It was never a question as to IF we would ever be our own bosses but WHEN was the bigger piece of the puzzle. Our Father led by example and set the tone for our entrepreneurial future. Running your own company, something that seems like a stretch to some, was our everyday reality. Our Dad owned and operated his cable company, Anderson Cable Enterprises, throughout our childhoods, until this past year when he began his well- deserved retirement. In 1998 our parents moved us to “The Farm” in Flamborough where we watched him manage over twenty-five employees on the property where we were raised. Observing him face and successfully overcome challenges (including the innovations of the internet and satellite), and how he would pivot to constantly stay ahead of the curve was an invaluable lesson to bear witness to. It was that pivotal education that would unknowingly shape our future and lead us to pursue the management of our own company and spark the desire to face our own inevitable challenges of business ownership.
FORGING OUR OWN PATH:
Kaleigh was infatuated with real estate from the age of twenty. At the time, she was working at an Irish pub called the Tir Nan Og in Kingston, Ontario while attending university. One of her regular customers was a local realtor who liked to stop by for a Guinness and look over all the real estate ads in the paper. When the bar was slow, they would go through them together, talk about the market and he would always joke that she should be selling houses instead of beer. This message stuck, and within a few years Kaleigh had her real estate license and a mentor in Steve Tar of the successful Tar Team, who also happened to be her Dad’s best friend. Kaleigh started her career with DTZ Barnicke in commercial real estate servicing Toronto, Markham, Richmond Hill and surrounding areas. After a massive growth year in the commercial market, Kaleigh’s original passion for residential real estate pulled her back to her roots in the Flamborough, Hamilton, and Halton region and she was offered a position at a large residential real estate team in the area. Kaleigh spent over eight years learning, growing, innovating, and developing her skill set to become a top producing and award-winning agent on the team. One of the highlights working for the team was the addition of Harmony, when she joined as the Transactions Coordinator.
Even though she’s the youngest of the four Anderson sisters, Harmony has always been a natural born leader. From being on leadership committees throughout school, to serving as captain of her many hockey teams, and becoming a store manager at her first job at Booster Juice (in record time!), Harmony’s impressive management abilities were evidently innate. In her early twenties, Harmony decided to travel to challenge herself and gain the experiences that would help shape her future career path. Upon her return she pursued a role in real estate and climbed the ladder from transactions coordinator to listings coordinator, overseeing a complex large-scale listings operation.
Through our shared love of real estate and complimentary skill sets, ideas and discussions started to brew that this might be the opportunity we had been searching for…. to create a company and legacy we could be proud of.
ANDERSON REALTY IS BORN:
Although our big team was comfortable, we started to realize our growth was going to be stunted and that our professional lives didn’t feel rewarding in the way we had always dreamed they would be. Taking the leap to becoming our own boss wasn’t an easy decision. It took a lot of conviction, planning, finances, support, and frankly… balls! But once we took the leap, we couldn’t believe the ease at which all that planning fell into place. It wasn’t that it didn’t take many long hours and late nights, tears, hysterical laughter, or hard work, but it was because we were overjoyed finally working for OURSELVES! We’ve learned working towards a common goal that supports our clients in a way we believe in, has made work easier, more rewarding, and much more enjoyable.
We have so much planned for this budding business of ours and we can’t believe the amount of support we’ve already received from family, friends, and our amazing past and present clients! We promise our love for what we do, our ability to provide an unparalleled experience, and our unwavering tenacity to innovate and constantly improve our business and service will exceed our clients’ expectations. We have never felt more passionate, and we’re ready to take on and conquer the Real Estate world.
Stay tuned, here we come!
